John Ross is a multi-award winning, London-based photographer. He is known for iconic music photography featuring artists such as Stormzy, the Manic Street Preachers and the Pet Shop Boys. His recent commercial work has included projects for Nike, the V&A, Timberland and Drambuie Whisky. John currently works from a studio in Battersea, which he also runs as multi-complex commercial studio space. He’s been using EIZO monitors for his work for over 20 years and, although he already owned six (3 x CG241W, 1 x CG247X, 1 x CG221 and 1 x EV2333W), he was keen to try out one of our newer models. We sent him the ColorEdge CG2730 to see how it compared to his other monitors and this is what he told us…
"I’ve repeatedly bought EIZO products throughout my career and have always considered them as the industry standard for photographers and retouchers. The colour balance and contrast are true to real life, which means that my work is represented more accurately and colours never appear garish. It’s essential to have a true reflection of what you shoot and, with some monitors you really don’t get that. In the studio, I usually balance as I shoot so it’s imperative that it’s accurate.
I love the extended landscape display of the CG2730 and the fact that it calibrates automatically. This function is fantastic and is a real benefit when light conditions change in my working environment. I’ve set up the CG2730 with two other monitors using that one as my central monitor for colour profiling and the two peripheral monitors giving me space to display my software tools. It’s proving a great set-up for me."
