Made in Japan

It started with arcade machines and has grown into an obsession with precision, craft, technology and quality. This is the story of living, breathing colour.

When EIZO was founded in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1967, long did they envisage that 50 years later we would be sitting here talking about a visual technology company that boasts the ability to offer imaging solutions in more than 80 countries and numerous verticals. The Japanese company ultimately started out as an original equipment manufacturer of black and white TVs in rural Japan before finding its real breakthrough with the emergence of gaming in Japan in the 1970s.

EIZO rode this wave to perfection by beginning to manufacture and sell tabletop video arcade machines at a time when it really took off. The company even had a part to play in the success of one of the 20th century’s most successful and recognisable arcade games in “Space Invaders”. You are probably asking yourself the same question as I am, ‘How on earth did EIZO, a relatively new at the time visual technology company get involved in what turned out to be the best-selling video game and highest-grossing entertainment product of its time? Well it was through EIZO’s ability to use their obsession with quality, mixed with the companies pledge to always keep up with technological advancements, which led to this huge partnership and them seizing the opportunity to grow.

From here on the visual technology company continued to go from strength to strength, expanding its product range into specialised markets such as healthcare, office, industry, photography, design and media. Slowly becoming one of the market leading companies designing and manufacturing monitors around the world, yet it was the key origins and culture of being a Japanese company that has stayed with the company throughout this expansion and continues to do so to this day.

EIZO’s Japanese heritage is apparent in the superior products it produces with everything in Japan providing excellent service through its impressive quality control. This, accompanied with its 5-year on-site leading warranty on its ColorEdge products is possible thanks to the highly developed production process it uses based on a simple principle of “quality comes first”. This approach is continued throughout the entire business still today allowing EIZO the ability to position themselves as a trusted name of high-end monitors in the creative industry, meeting the demands of professionals by producing consistent colour accurate monitors and to become known as the industry standard.
